Reynold B. Johnson
Background:Reynold B. Johnson impacted the history of computers through his 1956 investigation, finally invented disk data storage. Originally a student at the University of Minnesota, Johnson became a high school teacher and inventor, later inventing a machine in which scored multiple choice questions using pencil marks to automatically check individual questions, outputting a final score. After it was introduced, IBM realized the products potential, later buying the rights to Reynold's product, naming it the IBM Test Scoring Machine. Afterwords, IBM decided to hire Johnson as an engineer for their company.

Invention:After Working for IBM for several years after his invention in 1937, Johnson was sent to a research lab known as the IBM West Coast Laboratory. Over the course of 1952-1956, Johnson drove a team of inventors to create what was known or thought of as the very first disk drive storage hardware item. All though it was thought to be un-reasonable, IBM launched it as the IBM 305 RAMAC. All though it was not popular at the time, it led to the creation of present day portable disk drives. All though thought of useless at the time, his invention encouraged and help invent a present day multi-billion dollar computing industry, in which un-knowingly impacts everyone's lives.
